In memory of an All American Girl - D.J. Prochaska,
2001 Junction Rodeo Queen
Heather and D.J. Prochaska met at the 2002 CPRA Rodeo royalty pageant. They became very good friends and anticipated attending future rodeo pageants and clinics down the road, however, tragedy struck and D.J. was in an auto accident a week after the CPRA Rodeo pageant. D. J. went to be with our Lord 10/29/02. She was a valuable contribution to the rodeo pageants, her wide eyed innocence, vibrant smile and willingness to help others was just a few of the reasons she won Miss. Congeniality at the 2002 CPRA Rodeo Pageant in the Princess division.
The 2003 CPRA Rodeo royalty pageant was a very emotional event in more ways than one...it was exactly one year ago D.J. competed for the title of Princess at that pageant. A speech division was added to the Princess competition - Heather had never done a speech in front of an audience before - she had no idea what was expected of her...D.J. helped her get through this area - as Heather made her speech about her friend and mentor - the late D.J. Prochaska ...it was a moving speech - came from the heart - it was obvious D.J. was there with us all. Thank you D.J. - Heather won the speech portion of that competition.
There was also a new award that was added to the CPRA rodeo royalty pageant in 2003 - the D.J. Prochaska Memorial Award for Miss Congeniality - a beautiful red/white/blue stars and stripes canvas horse blanket was awarded to the recipient of this award...once again ....D.J. touched Heather - the blanket was won by Heather - her proudest accomplishment ever! Heather's comment after the pageant was over "I won the same title D.J. won from last year - Miss Congeniality - never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine I could win that - that blanket means the world to me. I started to cry when I won it!"
Lastly - the final tribute in 2003 was made to D.J. at the CPRA rodeo - the lights dimmed, the announcer read a touching tribute of D.J. as Heather rode into the arena leading a riderless horse at her side. The audience was absolutely silent - tears swelled in eyes as the tribute was read. D.J. is missed terribly but in our hearts and minds always! Stars and stripes forever!!
